Why did Jesus need to tell his followers that all authority in heaven and on earth had been given to Him? In the Great Commission, Jesus tells His followers to go out, make new disciples, baptize them and teach them. The two most unusual parts of this charge were probably the who (all nations) and in whose name(The Father, Son and Holy Spirit), both might have been shocking to 1st century Jews.
