When does the need to follow a rule or law lead to sinfulness? Over the generations the dietary and cleanliness rules in the Old Testament had taken on more importance than the reasons behind them. Jesus points this out and goes to the heart of rules and the need of some to use these rules as a yardstick or club. The 2nd and 3rd parts of this passage are examples of great faith, and also how Jesus was more accepted in Greek or Gentile areas than to the Jewish people.
