What is the value of a righteous person? Lot had been shown to be self serving, here he is shown to be respected and righteous on his own. The opposite is true for the people of Sodom, and later, even Lot’s wife and daughters. The evil that is directed at strangers, Lot and his family shows why God interceded by raining fire and brimstone down on Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot lingers and hesitates to leave the city. He and his family have to be led away and saved by the angels.
