The first of so many genealogies shows the progression of the ungodly versus the more righteous line of Adam’s descendants. The descendants of Cain continue to grow worse and further away from God’s directive. Cain builds a city to protect himself from others. This line moves further to self reliance and defense, developing skills becoming more sinful and violent. Seth’s line continued to live by faith calling on the name of the Lord.
