Jesus alludes to the past, present and future here using a landowner tenant relationship to outline the relationship between God and His chosen people(Israel.) God had given them lands and cities but they had continually rejected God and their covenant duties, always putting themselves first. The anger of the Jewish leaders showed their understanding of the points Jesus was making.
