Meditation: Matt
How keenly aware of the Messianic prophecies was Matthew? How about the people of Jerusalem? Here the description of the donkey’s colt and the people’s response to the procession show how important these prophecies were to first century Jews. The symbols and expectations would soon fail them as the desires for conquest and freedom would be at odds with Jesus’s sacrifice and death.
