Like many religions today, the first century Jews had many different views on the Messiah. Here Jesus disturbs the disciples by prophesying his own future.  To those that were looking for a conquering warrior, this portrait  might have been too great a shock. Jesus’s discussion of the temple tax and subsequent miracle, show his avoidance to offend those that followed the letter of the Law of Moses.
