How many people were raised in religions where the words, writings or pronouncements of a leader are given the same reverence or obedience as scripture? In the first part of this passage Jesus points out this error and how mankind shapes right and wrong on the basis of their own desires(heart). Jesus continues to focus on this when He discusses the  evil things we say or do and where it comes from.
