These images can be harsh for modern audiences but may be not so for people that had seen the barbarity of battles and wars in the past. The defeat and destruction of the enemies of God at the end of time have been shown to be inevitable. This last victory in spiritual warfare should not come as a surprise. From the beginning, God has ordained and prophesied those things that were to come.
