This is the ultimate expression of the carrot & stick technique.  Starting off with praise of their knowledge and gifts, Paul is quick to point out the dangerous problems that exist within their church. The old saying, “It’s not the messenger but the message,” leads the charges against them. What good is having so many gifts if you are going in the wrong direction, both individually and as a group?
