While short, this passage carries many strong points, some of which are still being argued about today. Jesus’ ministry had many detractors and opponents, even within his own family. Similarly, the Messiah/prophet/sorcerer/demon arguments were used by some to confuse and deflect. Jesus’s wording, while severe, may actually not have been taken seriously enough.
