Psalm: 74

Meditation

Luke: Here we go again! Faith versus works. A lawyer, no less, challenges Jesus on the best, if not the shortest way to inherit eternal life. They discuss what the law says, and the lawyer is spot on. Words are important – especially to lawyers. Notice the lawyer employs the word “inherit”. Hidden here are several notions. An inheritance is bequeathed to someone in a relationship with the testator (the writer of the will). Of equal importance: the inheritance is not earned it is a gift.

Gospel:

Luke 10:25-37

New Testament:

Hebrews 7:18-28

Old Testament:

Ezek. 18:1-4, 19-32
