Psalm: 81

Meditation

Ephesians: “…even when we were dead through our trespasses…” (v. 4) It is a pity we have fixed in our heads what that phrase means. Clearly, Paul and everyone else at that time were ‘alive’. Now when God warned Adam against eating the “forbidden fruit”, it seems to me Adam had no concept of what death is. So, when it came time for Satan to tempt Adam and Eve, he began by saying, “surely you will not die.” (Genesis 3:4) Since Adam and Eve had no point of reference regarding death, they were in the dark still, that is, until it was too late.

Gospel:

Matt. 10:24-33, 40-42

New Testament:

Ephesians 2:1-10

Old Testament:

Ezekiel 3:16-27
