Psalm: 106

Meditation

Deuteronomy is a retelling of the law. Simple enough. It also serves to “fill in the gaps” left in the law’s wake. Verse 3 cuts to the heart of the matter like a laser: “one does not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” This is so significant that during one of His most vulnerable moments during His sojourn in the wilderness, Jesus used this very verse to ward off Satan. I suspect He kept repeating it every one of those 40 days.

Gospel:

Luke 9:18-27

New Testament:

James 1:1-15

Old Testament:

Deuteronomy 8:1-10
