John: Notice, “I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit while every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes so that it will be more fruitful.” (vv. 1-2) Consider the difference between “cut” and “prune”. Both involve cutting but the pruned branch is to allow for more fruit, whereas the cut branch is to preserve the nutrients for the good branches.
