Jeremiah: The LORD has done what no one had ever believed possible: He has overseen the destruction of Jerusalem because of the sin of His people. Why do we believe He will not do the same to us? Jeremiah weeps both for the city itself as well as its people as does Jesus many years later. Jeremiah and Jesus share an anguish over Jerusalem which was supposed to be a “safe place” but which continues to build its reputation of murdering the prophets.
