Psalm: 106

Meditation

Ruth: A subtext to this passage is the practice of gleaning. In Deuteronomy 24:19-21 the LORD commands harvesters not to pick crops clean but rather to allow the poor, the widow, and the stranger to “glean” the leftover crop. (A form of welfare.) Boaz had made it clear that Ruth was to be allowed to gather as much as she could without rebuke. Gleaning would have been somewhat hazardous for women, their being susceptible to rowdy male harvesters.

Gospel:

Matthew 5:27-37

New Testament:

2 Corinthians 3:1-18

Old Testament:

Ruth 2:14-23
