Psalm: 103

Meditation

Matthew: I love this citation: “an eye for an eye…” Here begins a brief address on the transitory nature of the world. An eye for an eye or a strike for a strike, or a coat and a cloak – all of these things are transitory and, more importantly, one cannot take them with him once he dies. Then come “Love your enemies”. This is precisely what God does for all of us and as if to emphasize the points, Jesus points out how the sun shines on the just and the unjust and the rain the same.

Gospel:

Matthew 5:38-48

New Testament:

2 Corinthians 4:1-12

Old Testament:

Ruth 3:1-18
