Hebrews: Because he is the father of the faithful, Abraham is held here before us as an example. And why not? He was 75 when called by God to pull up stakes in the city of Ur and just follow God’s lead. So, like a nomad, he and his family eventually made it to what became known as the Promised Land.  Alas, he still lived like a nomad, a foreigner in a strange land. His faith ultimately resulted in the birth of Isaac – the promised son of Sara’s and Abraham’s body (though she was 90 and he was 99). That gets the ball rolling.
