Psalm: 119:1-24

Christmas Eve

Meditation

Luke: The difficulty of probing a familiar passage of Scripture such as this is the temptation not to try to find something new. This is my effort. Zechariah was a priest and as such he was a Levite. John the baptizer is but 8 days old; Zechariah, though not recognized as a prophet begins a prophecy. He begins it by announcing the coming of “a mighty savior” from the house of David (Judah). He then identifies his own son as the one “who will be called the prophet of the Most High.” (1:76) even as Malachi had foretold.

Gospel:

Luke 1:67-80

New Testament:

Rev. 22:12-17, 21

Old Testament:

Isaiah 35:1-10
