1 John: In the NRSV the word “love” appears in this passage at least 15 times. Verse 16 sums up this frequency in “God is love…” Since we are made in God’s image, we also are called “to be love”. Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment [Commandments 1-4] and the second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ (Matt. 22:37-39)
