Psalm: 27

Meditation

Luke: All too often things are taken for granted. It is difficult for most of us (perhaps more especially me) to re-read a familiar passage such as this and to see it with “fresh” eyes. What may appear as obvious to many of us will not be so to others. I wonder just how many times Jesus had to re-tell this parable or one like it for his audience finally to get it. The several slaves sent to the vineyard are the prophets over the centuries leading up to the ultimate prophet, Jesus. God’s (or “the man” v. 9) Son, only to watch Him get killed. What then would you do next?

Gospel:

Luke 20:9-18

New Testament:

1 Thess. 2:1-12

Old Testament:

Isaiah 1:21-31
