Psalm: 35

Meditation

Isaiah: This sounds like a grim rendering of what we read yesterday in 1 Thessalonians 2 – but somewhat expanded upon. Vv. 12-16 tell of how God will reckon with the “proud and lofty” (v. 12). I guess Isaiah’s message was not warmly received. [He got his desserts later for all his “mean oracles”; he was martyred by being sawn in two.) Some of this macabre imagery re-appears in John’s book of Revelation (6:15-16; 9:6). Let’s just admit – it will not be pleasant. How nice is that?

Gospel:

Luke 20:27-40

New Testament:

1 Thess. 3:1-13

Old Testament:

Isaiah 2:12-22
