Psalm: 16

Meditation

Isaiah: It appears the LORD does not have any good things to say to Judah. These Jews would have been insulted at being mentioned in the same breath as Sodom and Gomorrah and here the Judeans are being identified with those reprobates. I hope we remember the horrendous period of the Judges (late 13th century B.C.). That period, with several minor exceptions, seems to have been the shadow, cast over Judah. God is patient – the age of the Judges was some 600+ years before Isaiah spoke. So, holy days and sacrifices were to no avail without the turning of hearts. (vv. 16-20)

Gospel:

Luke 20:1-8

New Testament:

1 Thess. 1:1-10

Old Testament:

Isaiah 1:10-20
