Psalms: 62, 63

Meditation

Luke: The parable of the “Prodigal Son” always moves me. The younger son has taken so much for granted; he goes to his father, and to reduce it to basics, said, “I wish you were dead … give me my money!” This must have been a seriously dysfunctional family! The son who did not leave was no better than his younger brother and he got a double portion – the due of the first born. Whining and moaning ensues upon the return of the lost son, who, as he himself admitted, was no longer worthy to be called a son.  None of that matters to the father who got his son back.

Gospel:

Luke 15:1-2, 11-32

New Testament:

James 1:1-15

Old Testament:

Joel 2:21-27
