Psalms: 87, 93

Meditation

Luke: Setting: the house of a Pharisee. Verses 12-14 are an apt description of the contrast between “nice” and “kind”. The nice person will seek some sort of repayment – perhaps not in kind but something. I call these people “counters”; those who want to ensure the books are balanced! Rather, the kind person fails to count the cost and never expects nor wants repayment of any kind. See Paul’s treatment of this in 1 Corinthians 13.

Gospel:

Luke 14:12-24

New Testament:

Revelation 18:15-24

Old Testament:

Joel 1:1-13
