Ecclesiasticus: All throughout Scripture we are admonished to “remember”. The truth is we don’t, so occasionally we are given “boosters” to remind us. Most of the time we are exhorted to remember the law, or the word of God. In this case, Sirach delves into the lives of OT saints much as the writer of Hebrews did in chapter 11 of that book. While not covered in this reading, nor even completed in this book Sirach begins with Enoch, then Moses, then Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Read Hebrews 11 for a full treatment of worthies to remember.
