Matthew: Let’s talk some of judgment. This business of taking a grievance to the offender finds its roots in Leviticus 19:17 which, happily closes with “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” See Proverbs 17:10 and 28:23 – both suggest that the wise man will benefit from correction whereas the fool will not. The reason one brings another with him if not listened to at first is to draw attention to the severity of the situations. The next discipline is excommunication.
