Psalms: 121, 122, 123

Meditation

Matthew: This reading is taken from the so-called “Sermon on the Mount”. This is perhaps, the third most familiar writing in Scripture after The Lord’s Prayer (interestingly, also imbedded in this Sermon) followed by the 23rd Psalm. The danger here is that if one hears something so much, after a while he doesn’t hear it at all. I think that is the point of what Jesus is getting at here. “You shall not kill” has a lot more to it than just murder – are you listening? Speaking of: how often did Jesus say, he who has ears to hear, let him hear?

Gospel:

Matthew 5:21-26

New Testament:

Revelation 18:1-8

Old Testament:

Job 38:1, 18-41
