Psalm: 109
Meditation
John: John opens this encounter, presumably with the scribes, elders, and Pharisees, with another identifying characteristic of Himself: “I am the light of the world…” (v. 12) These very words echo to the very first chapter of John: “What has come into being in Him was life, and the life was the light of all men.” (John 1:3-4) Life, light, and love are the three principal aspects of Jesus which runs through all of John’s gospel. Jesus also mentions to His audience that they neither know Him nor His Father. Later, He would say the same thing again to His disciples.
