Psalm: 40

Meditation

John: Jesus is still talking about bread. Here, He proclaims that He is “the bread of life that comes down from heaven.” (v. 48) Jesus then makes a contrast between “the bread that comes down from heaven” and the manna in the wilderness. Exodus 16 talks of manna sometimes called “angel’s food.” This manna would constitute the main staple (diet) of the Israelites for the next 40 years. These Hebrews grow weary of the manna. The manna was good for but 1 day – so it was fresh every morning! “Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matt. 6:11)
