Psalms: 137, 140
Meditation
Judges: It is time to break with mythic tradition: angels are not feathered creatures, though that is exactly how Ezekiel describes them without once using the term “angel”. No, angels are “messengers”. In this instance, the angel in our account, is actually the LORD Himself. This “angel” is announcing the birth of a son to a childless couple, who, it turns out, will deliver Israel from their oppressors, the Philistines. Natal prophecies are not all that common: I can think of 4 (there may be others): Isaac, Samson, John the Baptizer, and Jesus.
