Psalm: 79

Meditation

Matthew: The most difficult part of this particular day, I think, was for Jesus, was to complete his journey to the cross. Simon of Cyrene (a north African city) was conscripted to carry Jesus’ cross – Jesus must live to die on the cross. Consider all He went through thus far, apart from humiliation. He was crowned with thorns and then He was whipped (scourged). Remember, Jesus was, by this time in Roman hands, I mention this because the Jews were allowed to whip someone for cause, but only 40 stripes; the Romans had no such restrictions – unlimited as it were. Still, Jesus’ day was not yet finished.

Gospel:

Matthew 27:32-44

New Testament:

Romans 16:17-27

Old Testament:

Judges 2:1-5, 11-23
