Psalm: 35

Meditation

Matthew: This is Jesus’ end-time prophecy. Prophecy is very tricky – we actually think, by it, to probe the mind of God. In my estimation, the only way to consider prophecy is once it is fulfilled. We can guess and cajole all we like, but in the end, it is only through fulfillment that prophecy can be assured. This particular discourse describes how Jesus saw his own return. If you want fanfare, there will be plenty of that. At that time “…the things of earth will grow strangely dim”, as the hymnist (Helen Lemmel) tells us.

Gospel:

Matthew 24:15-31

New Testament:

Romans 10:1-13

Old Testament:

Deut. 31:7-13, 24-32:4
