Jesus talks about a treasure in a field, (v. 4) a pearl of great price (vv. 45-46) and then Jesus asks them “Have you understood all this?” (v. 5) They tell Him they did. I am a little surprised at that for in time to come, they will act as though they had never grasped it at all. Jesus then informed them that they were trained scribes. The scribe is a scribe because he knows the Law or, in this case, Jesus’ teaching. The disciples are now charged, because of this, to spread this good news.
