Psalm: 66

Luke: This is one of those selections I don’t fully understand chosen for this day in the Book of Common Prayer (BCP – 1977). Simeon is one of the last prophets of the Old Testament (also allowing that John the Baptist was an Old Testament prophet) – he is what I describe as being a “major/minor” prophet in the Bible or a “minor/major” character. Dutifully he goes to the Temple to witness the Lord’s promise to him: “It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.” (v. 26)

Gospel: Luke 1:26-38

New Testament: Titus 1:1-16

Old Testament: 1 Samuel 2:1-10
