Matthew: Jesus is telling us, i.e., we of today, to keep watch. We would be prone to think just what the wicked servant thought – Jesus is taking too long: do whatever you like He’s not coming back for a long while. For the one who keeps alert, He will put in charge of God’s possessions. The wicked, and may I add, lazy servant who mistreats his flow servants will face severe punishment. The imagery of “gnashing of teeth” makes me think of worry and fright. It is! After having been cut to pieces and then to be cast into hell.
