Psalm: 113, 115

Meditation

Luke: John (the Baptist) was born to a Levitical family – his father Zechariah was among those serving in the Temple. Zechariah would closely adhere to the Law thus when John was 8 days old, he was thus circumcised. That was the day the child would be named. John’s name was determined before he was born by the angel who brought the glad tidings. As we will find out late, John lived as a Nazarite – perfect for a prophet.  (See Numbers 6:1-21)

Gospel: Luke 1:57-68

New Testament: 2 Thessalonians 1:5-12

Old Testament: Amos 6:1-14
