Nahum: This prophesy was specifically levelled toward Nineveh. This is the second such prophesy. The first, and perhaps more memorable prophesy was delivered by Jonah. There never was any love lost between Israel and Assyria (Nineveh) so when the LORD wanted Jonah to go to Nineveh, he was, shall we say reluctant. Under duress Jonah brought the LORD’s message and much to Jonah’s disappointment, these hated heathens repented. That was 100 years earlier (8^th century B.C.) Since then the Ninevites backslid to old familiar and pagan habits. This was the LORD’s attempt to offer them yet another chance.
