First Sunday in Advent

Psalm: 26

Meditation

1 Thessalonians: Just two days ago we looked at Isaiah’s vision of the final days of earth. Paul provides us with a view of what may lead up to the final conflagration. As Isaiah said, the wicked cannot escape. I don’t know why but many Christians fret that they will be caught unawares when the time comes. This passage makes it clear that God will keep His elect informed. “But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.” (v. 14)

Gospel: Luke 21:5-19

New Testament: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

Old Testament: Amos 1:1-5, 13-2:8
