Luke: This is Luke’s rendering of Matthew chapter 5 except instead of minas (1 ¼ lbs.) Matthew uses talents (75 lbs.) for the gold weight which is considerably more. The point is the same: do something with what God has given you. Even if you lose it all, you did more than bury it. It is not that you succeed in doubling or tripling the gift, just use it. If you bury it, you insult the giver of the gift. You can’t think that God cares about the loss of the money.
