Matthew: The Transfiguration. Why is this event so important? Well, it bears some similarity to Moses on Mount Sinai and the burning bush; God speaks here too. Jesus wanted people to make associations between Himself and Moses. How did Peter, James, and John know who was with Jesus? It is not as though each one wore a name tag. I presume God revealed it to them. In any case, Moses and Elijah represent the Law and the Prophets. Jesus was born in complete humility (he was homeless) but here He is seen in all His glory – as much as human eyes can endure.
