Esther: Queen Vashti may have been an intellectual challenge to King Artaxerxes (Xerxes) and apparently of some influence over Persia. Artaxerxes was not “evolved” (as we say today) enough to not be offended because his wife did not jump when told to. The king then issued a decree which cannot be changed banning her from the king’s presence. We’ve seen this kind of decree before in Daniel Chapter 6. Very strange custom.
