Lamentations: Even as Jesus approaches Jerusalem He is brought to tears. Jeremiah, some 800 years before also weeps for Jerusalem. I doubt we fully appreciate that depth of emotion for a place. We good Christians of the evangelical or reform stripe, tend not regard any place as sacred. Perhaps we cheat ourselves because of that philosophy. After centuries of hearing just how important Jerusalem was to God, even to entertain the very notion that Jerusalem could be destroyed must have sounded treasonous.
