Psalm: 9

Meditation

Matthew: Jesus has compared Himself to John the Baptist – funny thing: both are found wanting. John is just plain strange –he doesn’t eat much (locusts and wild honey) and doesn’t drink, whereas Jesus is accused of being a “winebibber” and a glutton. As I say, one can’t make everyone happy – someone will complain. Jesus then lashes out at the surrounding towns castigating them for not repenting. Well, John’s message and Jesus’ message was the same – repent. A faithless and hardhearted people, they will not listen. But Jesus said that if Tyre, Sidon, and Sodom had heard the good news, they would have repented long ago.

Gospel: Matthew 11:16-24

New Testament: 1 Corinthians 15:30-41

Old Testament: Jeremiah 44:1-14
