Jeremiah: This is an illustration of faithfulness. These Rechabites were nomads and one of their ancestors, Jonadab, commanded that they neither drink wine nor build permanent houses. It was typical at that time that when given a prohibition, people tended to safeguard against offence by enhancing the command. Here no wine meant the Rechabites would avoid anything touching a grape.
