2 Kings: We believe Elijah never experienced human death – he was carried away to heaven in a fiery chariot. This is the nearest we get to an ending to Elijah’s life. When Elisha tells the prophets over and over again not to the speak of the LORD’s taking Elijah, it is because one does not mention death to the one dying (as it were). So, while Elijah did not die, he did “translate” to heaven.
