Psalm: 64

Meditation

Matthew: The three temptations described here are but types of temptations: carnal hunger, bad faith, and power. Let’s be clear Jesus, like us, had been tempted each and every day and perhaps more than once a day while in the desert. Which was the worst temptation? – hard to say. When Jesus said, “Do not put God to the test.” I think He means that God is not to be treated like a genie in a bottle.  That represents both presumption and arrogance.

Gospel: Matthew 4:1-11

New Testament: 1 Corinthians 1:1-19

Old Testament: 1 Kings 21:1-16
