Psalm: 52

Meditation

1 Kings: Jeroboam (I) newly established king of Israel (the 10 Northern Tribes) is determined that the people of the north have no reason to travel to Jerusalem. To do that he had set up a counterfeit temple (altar) and “god” – a golden calf (of all things) in both Bethel and Dan at which the people could make their offerings. This “man of God” (v. 1) prophesied that this altar would be destroyed. As I read it, I thought it meant in the distant future. That “distant” future turned out to be about a half an hour.

Gospel: Mark 15:40-47

New Testament: Philippians 1:1-11

Old Testament: 1 Kings 13:1-10
