Psalms: 32

Meditation

Mark: As Jesus hangs on the cross He cries out “My God, my God…” in either Aramaic or Hebrew which is mistaken by some as a cry for Elijah. Elijah was to play an important role in the life of John the Baptist. It was a cherished belief that Elijah would return to announce the arrival of the Messiah. Even Jesus referred to John the Baptist as Elijah. The Temple curtain was torn from top to bottom. This curtain was not some sheer see-through number. There were several layers to it – it was probably as heavy a theatre curtain.

Gospel: Mark 15:33-39

New Testament: James 5:7-12, 19-20

Old Testament: 1 Kings 12:1-10
